- The setting of the novel Les Miserables is in Paris, France.
2.) What are the details of the play that would show the concepts of the literary translation?
- The details of the play that show the concepts of the literary translation are the songs/lyrics, the action done on how they portray the characters background, the language used and the flow of the story.
3.) Can you list the most important characters in the play? Explain why you choose the characters.
- Jean Valjean, even though he is an ex-convict he prove himself that he can change. He has redemptive power of compassion and love.
- Fantine, she is a poor, working-class girl with no education, her character is a mother figure because all she did is for the sake of her child Cosette.
- Eponine, she fell in love with the man who love another woman, but despite that she even help him to find his loved one and die in the arms of the man he loved and didn't had the bad feeling about him because she herself know what really the truth.
4.) After reading the summary from sparksnote.com compare and contrast the two different version.
- The novel from the sparksnote is also one of the literary translation because the main ideas or thought is in the story, the concepts and the characters. And in the musical play it is very interesting because you can enjoy the story by the lyrics and you can feel the characters. Both the summary and the musical play are the same because main concepts of the authors are there.
5.) What can you say about the music play? What particular details from the play can you relate to literary translation ?
- The musical play is very intense, you can really feel and understand the story. The action done by the characters are portrayed well, and you feel the excitement and joy while watching and listen the musical play The musical play is a form of theatrical performance that combins acting while singing, so i can relate it to ht literary translation.
6.) Can you list the parts that got your attention as a viewer.
- While watching the musical play I feel the excitement in every scene, but one thing that caught my attentions is when Eponine have a feeling for Marius and he didn't even know but despite of that she still help Marius track where Cosette is, the girl he loves. And in the end she die in the arms of the man that she loved.
7.) What ideas from the play that justify the greatness of the novel.
- The ideas of the play that justify the greatness of the novel is the injustice of the law, and the increasing of the poverty. The rebellion of the student because of the injustice law of the government. And the most important thing is the changes of the character from bad to good like Jean Valjean, who change because of the bishop who perished him despite all the sin that he had.
8.) What concepts from literary translation would you use to create a different musical adaptation of the novel?
- The novel Les Miserables has so many adaptation, and one of that is musical play. The concepts that I would use to create a different musical adaptation of the novel is the redemptive power of compassion and love.
